Tyler Farst drove in three RBIs, while Chase Adams turned in a strong relief effort, leading the Reds to a 12-4 victory Friday afternoon at Hawks Field.

Farst went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and scored twice to lead an 11-hit attack, while the Reds took advantage of five White errors that led to seven unearned runs.

Adams, a junior college right-hander who pitched at NJCAA National champion Howard College last season, was dominant early on out of the pen. Leading 3-0 in the top of the third, but facing a bases-loaded situation, Adams got Boomer Collins to strike out looking to end the third, beginning a run which saw him retire nine of the first 10 hitters he faced.

Adams, who did not give up a run until the eighth, fanned four and scattered six hits to pick up the victory. By then, the game was well in hand, as the Reds scored nine runs between the third and fifth fames to stake Adams to a 9-0 lead.

Cade Thompson had three hits and an RBI, while the duo of Josh Scheffert and Kurt Farmer combined to score five runs in the bottom two sports in the lineup.

In the third, a leadoff double by Farmer and a single and stolen base from Kyle Bubak put runners at second and third against White starter Tom Lemke. Farst made it 1-0 with a sacrifice fly and Lemke was seemingly out of the inning, but a fly ball was misplayed, allowing two runs to cross and make it a 3-0 game.

The Reds put the game out of reach one inning later, scoring four times to take a 7-0 cushion. Run-scoring singles by Bubak and Farst keyed the outburst, as they also took advantage of an error and a pair of wild pitches.

Lemke allowed one earned run on two hits over 3.1 innings of work to take the loss, as he was the first of five pitchers used on the day. Freshman pitcher Ryan Hander turned in an impressive effort in relief for the Whites, fanning five over 3.2 innings of shutout, two-hit ball.

The Whites were kept off the scoreboard until the eighth when John Mulgrue’s RBI double and a two-run homer off the bat of DJ Belfonte made it 9-3. Mulgrue, Bryan Peters, who went 2-for-4 and scored twice and Chad Christiansen all had two hits apiece in a losing effort.

The series is scheduled to conclude tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. at Hawks Field. Because of the potential for inclement weather on Saturday, no final decision will be made until at least 9 a.m. on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to check Huskers.com for updates regarding the series.
