The Nebraska football team worked out for two hours inside the Hawks Championship Center on Friday afternoon as it works toward wrapping up preparations for its bowl game against Clemson on New Year’s Day.

“We’ve had two really good days of practice prepping for this bowl game,” Offensive Coordinator Shawn Watson said. “Our guys are really locked in and I think they’re excited because of the way our season’s gone. They’re excited to play in a bowl game against an opponent like Clemson.”

The offensive staff has been working on putting together a gameplan against one of the nation’s top defenses. Clemson is ranked 17th in total defense this season, giving up less than 300 yards of offense per game.

“They have really good athletes playing at all positions,” Watson said. “They’re really well-schemed in terms of what they do. It’s a little different style of defense from what we see in our league, but they’ve had a really good year, and their stats nationally speak for what they’ve done.”

Watson said that he is trying to mix it up as much as possible as far as his gameplan goes.

“We always push ourselves as a staff to be creative outside what we’ve done,” Watson said. “We don’t want to ever be the same. The system is built to allow us to do that, but for this game especially, we’ve had time, so we’re looking at some different things that we’ll do. Some of the things we’ll keep, and some of them we’ll scratch because they’re not us.”

Watson noted that senior running back Marlon Lucky is “all the way back” from his injury that kept him out of the Colorado game, and he is expected to be full speed against Clemson.

Nebraska will practice again on Saturday morning before the Huskers take a Christmas break.
