Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson and the Husker staff are happy with the tempo of the first two practices.

The Nebraska football team continued spring practice on Friday afternoon with its second practice in three days. The Huskers worked out for 2 ½ hours inside the Hawks Championship Center in shorts and helmets.

Nebraska continued its normal routine for the 2007 spring with position meetings at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, before hitting the practice field shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson said he has been pleased with the pace and intensity of the Huskers’ practices both today and on Wednesday. Nebraska will complete its first week of workouts on Saturday morning. The Huskers are scheduled to don full pads for the first time this spring and Watson said the players and coaching staff are both excited to get into full-contact work.

Following Saturday’s practice, Nebraska will conduct the third annual Husker Youth Experience, a free football clinic for 500 youth ages 8 through 8th grade. Husker coaches and players will put the campers through a series of stations designed to improve basic football fundamentals.

The Huskers are continuing to build toward the April 14 Red-White Spring Game at Memorial Stadium. Fans may purchase tickets for the spring game by logging onto Huskers.com or calling the Husker Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-8 BIG RED.

Statement from Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller following Friday’s practice:

“Yesterday, obviously, I made a bad decision. And I want to apologize first to the student that was involved and apologize to my teammates and everybody that's involved in this program. You never want something like this to happen. I'm going to handle it. I'm going to take care of it, but I just wanted to apologize to everybody.”
