Nebraska went through a near four-hour scrimmage Saturday morning inside the Hawks Championship Center.

Lincoln – With just a week remaining before the Red-White Spring Game, the Husker football team went through an 80-play scrimmage during a 2 1/2-hour workout inside the Hawks Championship Center Saturday morning.

“It was good work on both sides of the ball,” Head Coach Bill Callahan said. “It was very competitive and quite long today. I’m really proud of our players. Their performance is getting better and their technique and everything else overall is improving.”

Callahan said the practice included a very “game-like” atmosphere, with the Huskers operating in all downs and distances. They also worked on play action passes, 9-on-7 drills and red zone situations.

“We had some good throws by both Joe Ganz and Sam Keller,” Callahan said. “Both those guys are performing solid. Our receivers also played good. I thought our offensive line stepped up and I thought our defensive line did even better. I’m real encouraged by what I’m seeing from our defensive front and also from our linebackers.”

With the conclusion of Saturday’s practice, the Huskers will have three more workouts before next Saturday’s Spring Game. Nebraska will work out on Monday and Wednesday afternoon and on Thursday morning before taking to the Memorial Stadium field next Saturday. Kickoff for the spring game is set for 12:30 p.m.
