Not only is Lincoln a great city to visit, it is a hotbed of business activity. Named by Forbes Magazine as one of the “Best Places for Business,” Lincoln is the home to many large corporations including Kawasaki Motors, State Farm Insurance, Molex, and Perot Systems just to name a few.
Growing out of the original market square, the city of Lincoln’s entertainment sector, known as the Historic Haymarket District, offers Great restaurants, unique shopping and fun nightspots located among restored turn-of-the-century warehouses which make this area sizzle with activity. Antique shops, art galleries and the first microbrewery in Nebraska draw visitors day and night.
Lincoln is abuzz with political activity with the State Capitol as an undeniable landmark seen from miles away. Constructed as one of the four skyscraper state capitol buildings in the United States, the interior of this must-see jewel tells Nebraska’s history through carvings, mosaics, paintings, sculpture, inscriptions and inlaid wood. Each artistic element contributes to the symbolic concept of this gem, voted one of the 10 most beautiful buildings in the world by a group of 100 architects. It is also home to the only non-partisan one-house legislature in the United States. To get an incredible view of Lincoln, take the elevator to the top of the capitol to the observation deck where you can get a 360 degree view of the city.
Not only is the University of Nebraska - Lincoln home to the Bob Devaney Sports Center – home to the 2009 NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships, it provides over a day’s worth of places to see and things to do. The Sheldon Museum of Art houses one of the largest and best collections of 20th Century American Art in its structure made of travertine marble which at the time of its construction in the 1960’s was, per square foot, the most expensive constructed building in the United States. Near the Sheldon is the Lied Center for Performing Arts which presents everything from Broadway musicals to theatrical productions. Other great attractions on the university campus include Memorial Stadium (home to the Cornhusker football program), International Quilt Study Center, Lester F. Larsen Tractor Museum and Testing Lab to name a few.
From world-class art and entertainment to one-of-a-kind attractions, Lincoln offers something for everyone in a city that “Celebrates the Pioneer Spirit.”
