The Nebraska rifle team will send five shooters to the 2016 Winter Airgun Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend. Rachel Martin, Samantha Peterson, Rachel Yager, Dacotah Faught and Kayla Gadeken will compete in the competition at the Olympic Training Center on Dec. 2-4.
Imagine Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr., throwing a pass to Jordan Westerkamp from over three miles away and hitting him right between the numbers. That would be impressive, right? Well although it’s impossible to throw a football that far, Nebraska’s rifle team aims for an equivalent target every day on the rifle range.
Lincoln, Neb. --- The No. 7 completed a weekend sweep over No. 18 UTEP after defeating the Miners 4,668 - 4,588 on Sunday in the final match of the fall season.
Lincoln, Neb. --- The No. 7 Nebraska rifle team earned the third-highest air rifle score in school history (2,364) on Saturday en route to a 4,664-4,578 victory over No. 18 UTEP at the NU Rifle Range.
The No. 7 Nebraska rifle team finishes the fall season this weekend, when it welcomes UTEP to the NU Rifle Range for a pair of matches on Saturday and Sunday. Both matches are set to begin at 9 a.m. The NU Rifle Range is located in the basement of the Military and Naval Science Building on 14th and Vine. There will be equipment displays and an opportunity to test your shooting skills on both days. Coffee and hot chocolate will be served on Saturday.
Nebraska Head Coach Ashley MacAllister announced the addition of two future Huskers on Wednesday. Mari Butler (Casselton, N.D.) and Elizabeth Ewert (Burnsville, Minn.) signed with the Nebraska rifle team and will join the Huskers in 2017-18.
Lexington, Ky. --- The No. 8 Nebraska rifle team put on an impressive performance against fourth-ranked Kentucky on Saturday. Dacotah Faught tied the school record for the highest air rifle score by a junior, firing 596. Nina Radulovic earned a career-high smallbore score (586), while Rachel Yager tallied a 586 in air rifle for a new career-high. As a team, the Huskers recorded the highest team score this season by more than 10 points, along with the fifth highest air rifle score in school history (2,362). Despite the strong performance, NU fell to Kentucky 4,675-4,683.
Lexington, Ky. --- The eighth-ranked Nebraska rifle team dominated No. 18 Akron on Saturday 4,663 - 4,630.
The No. 8 Nebraska rifle team is set for a pair of matches against Top-20 teams this weekend. The Huskers compete against No. 18 Akron on Nov. 5 and fourth-ranked Kentucky on Nov. 6. Both matches are in Lexington, Ky., and are set to begin at 8 a.m.
Maddie Korthas, Sarah Sutton, Samantha Peterson, Rachel Yager, Hannah Virga and Jordan Miller all earned career highs today in the first home match of the season. The No. 8 Nebraska rifle team beat seventh-ranked Ohio State on Saturday at the NU Rifle Range. Both teams finished with 4,662, but the tie-breaker was determined by Xs. NU finished with 272, while OSU had 270.
