Play Huskers End Weekend with 4-3 Win Over Utah

After dropping a 7-5 decision to the defending Pac-12 champion Utah Utes (5-2, 0-0 Pac-12) on Friday night, the Nebraska baseball team (2-4, 0-0 Big Ten) responded with a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Huskers outhit the Utes, 10-3, on the day, while relievers Chad Luensmann and Luis Alvarado combined for 4.2 shutout innings, with Luensmann earning his first win of the season and Alvarado earning his first career save.

Huskers Fall to No. 8 Beavers, 5-2

For the second time in three days the Nebraska baseball team (1-4, 0-0 Big Ten) was unable to upset the No. 8 Oregon State Beavers (6-1, 0-0 Pac-12) at Surprise Stadium. The Beavers held on for a 5-2 win on Saturday night after posting a 10-1 win on Thursday afternoon. Nebraska was only outhit by one on the day, 10-9, but were get its hits early in innings. The Huskers were in search of two-out hits all game and left 10 men on base. Sophomores Angelo Altavilla and Jesse Wilkening, and junior Scott Schreiber all had a pair of hits, including a double from Wilkening. Mojo Hagge and Brison Cronenbold also notched doubles.

Sophomore Angelo Altavilla went 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs, but it came in a losing effort as the Nebraska baseball team (1-3, 0-0 Big Ten) lost to the defending Pac-12 champion Utah Utes (4-1, 0-0 Pac-12) by a score 7-5 on Friday night at Surprise Stadium.

Play No. 8 Beavers Drop Huskers, 10-1

The Nebraska baseball team (1-2, 0-0 Big Ten) fell behind 4-0 after the first inning to the No. 8 Oregon State Beavers (5-0, 0-0 Pac-12) on Thursday afternoon and were unable to comeback in a 10-1 loss.

Huskers Return to Arizona, Face Oregon State and Utah

For the second straight week the Nebraska baseball team (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten) will be in the Phoenix area, as the Huskers will be in Surprise, Ariz., for the Big Ten-Pac-12 Challenge at Surprise Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers. The Huskers were scheduled to play four games against the UC Riverside Highlanders last weekend in Tempe, Ariz., but rain washed out the final two games of the series.

Due to rain in the Phoenix area today's series finale against UC Riverside has been canceled. The Huskers and Highlanders played a doubleheader on Friday, but then had the final two games of the series canceled due to rain.

Tempe, Ariz. - The Nebraska baseball team saw its three-game season-opening win streak come to an end on Friday afternoon at Tempe Diablo Stadium, as it dropped the first game of a doubleheader with the UC Riverside Highlanders, 4-3. The Highlanders jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third when they scored four unearned runs following a Husker error. The Huskers climbed back in the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but were never able to plate the tying run.

Due to forecasted rain in the Tempe, Ariz., area this weekend, Nebraska and UC Riverside will now play a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 17, starting at 2 p.m. (CT). The Huskers and Highlanders will now meet for one game on Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) and Sunday’s game is still set for 2 p.m. (CT)
