Heredia was a student-athlete at Nebraska in 2010, competing on floor exercise and vault. His best finish came against Ohio State, UIC and Air Force, as he placed third on vault with a season-high score of 15.75. He transferred to Oklahoma and became an All-American on vault in 2012. As a Sooner he was also a 2012 Big Ten Conference champion and was part of a team that posted back-to-back NCAA runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2012. After graduating, Heredia was an assistant coach for Iowa men's gymnastics team where he coached two All-Americans on rings as well as a Big Ten champion on rings. The Hawkeyes finished fifth that season and was the highest finish since 2006.
