Shamus McKnight joined the Nebraska Athletic Department in 1997 and currently serves as a Senior Associate Communications Director after being promoted to that position in July of 2016. McKnight joined the full-time athletic department staff in 1999, and works directly with the Nebraska men's basketball and football programs.

At Nebraska, McKnight has been responsible for media guides across six sports that have earned "Best in the Nation" awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). In his 16 years at Nebraska, McKnight has earned more than 30 national publication awards from CoSIDA, including 18 publications that have placed in the top-five nationally.

In 2007, McKnight's volleyball and baseball guides were both voted "Best in the Nation" by CoSIDA. In 2008, McKnight was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as its Sports Information Director of the Year.

He has served as host communications director for the 2006 and 2008 NCAA Women's Division I Volleyball Championships in Omaha in addition to his duties as Nebraska's team communications director. McKnight has also served on Nebraska's on-site communications team for two football national championship games, as well as coordinated communications operations for the 1999 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships in Lincoln along with NCAA or conference events in baseball, women's gymnastics volleyball and men's and women's tennis.

McKnight also served as the content manager for the athletic department website,, for five years, running day-to-day operations for the site's 24 sports, as well as athletic department sections and created special event pages.

McKnight has also served for seven years as a member of the NCAA's College World Series Media Coordination Team and has served as the official scorer at Men's College World Series since 2013. McKnight served as president of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America during the 2007-08 academic year and is currently in his 11th year of serving on CoSIDA's Academic All-America Committee.

McKnight was the NU sports information office intern for two years and handled communications for men's and women's gymnastics and assisted with football. A 1996 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace where he worked for CoSIDA Hall of Famer Kevin Ruple, he also spent one year at Central Connecticut State University, serving as the school's contact for 12 sports. He also served internships with the City of Cleveland Convention and Visitors Bureau, U.S. Congressman Steven LaTourette and at the 1996 U.S. Senior Golf Open.
