2016: Jake Meyers had a breakout season in 2016, earning third-team All-Big Ten honors for his performance both at the plate and on the mound • Led the Husker offense with a .326 batting average and his 1.42 ERA was tops on NU's pitching staff • The first Husker to lead the team in both batting average and ERA dating back to at least 1967 • The last time a Husker started at least nine games on the mound and hit in 40 games or more was 1993 when Alvie Shepherd went 2-5 in 11 starts and hit .278 in 57 games at the plate • Meyers' 1.42 ERA was the second-lowest single-season ERA in school history by a pitcher who threw at least 40.0 innings • Trailed only Bill McGuire's 1.29 ERA from 1984 • Along with hitting .326, added 12 doubles, a team-best six triples, two home runs, 29 RBIs, 39 runs and 10 stolen bases • Ranked third on the team with 19 multi-hit games, including a pair of four-hit games • Posted an on-base percentage of .402 with 20 walks and 10 HBP to 24 strikeouts • Had a hit in each of the first seven games of the year, including four multi-hit games • Went 6-1 on the mound in 50.2 innings over nine starts • Allowed just eight earned runs and held opposing batters to a .210 batting average • Went a perfect 4-0 with a 1.39 ERA in five starts during Big Ten play • Was limited on the mound early in the season due to a hand injury • Tossed 7.0 shutout innings against Nicholls State on April 24 and also drove in the eventual game-winning run with a three-run home run • First Husker pitcher to homer and record a pitching win since April 21, 2009, when Adam Bailey hit a solo home run and earned the win following 2.2 innings of relief • Started on the mound in the finale of NU's last five regular-season weekend series of the year, and the Huskers won all five games • Tossed a career-high 8.0 innings at Michigan State on May 9 and also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored • Delivered 7.0 scoreless innings in a 3-0 win over Indiana that completed a three-game sweep of the Hoosiers, and NU's pitching staff allowed just one run in the three-game series.
2015: Meyers saw action in the field and on the mound for the Huskers as a true freshman in 2015 • Was a position player in 12 games, including six starts, and made 16 appearances out of the bullpen • Hit .167 (3-for-18) in limited at-bats, but had a .400 on-base percentage with seven walks to only two strikeouts • Had most of his success on the mound with a 3-1 record and one save with a 2.38 ERA over 34.0 innings • Struck out 29 and held opponents to a .238 batting average, while allowing nine walks • Didn't give up a run in his first 8.2 innings over five appearances • After getting tagged for a season-high five runs against Omaha on April 15, didn't allow an earned run in 10.1 innings over his final five appearances of the year.
Before Nebraska: Meyers joined the Huskers after being named the 2014 captain of both the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska and the Lincoln Journal Star Super State teams • Ranked as the No. 1 outfielder in the state of Nebraska and the No. 4 overall player in the state by Perfect Game • Was 9-0 as a senior at Omaha Westside with a 0.97 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 58 innings • Delivered at the plate with a .440 batting average and a team-high 51 runs • Led the Warriors to back-to-back Class A state titles in 2013 and 2014 • Started the 2014 title game against Creighton Prep and tossed a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts • Pitched a pair of complete games at the 2014 state tournament, totaling 21 strikeouts and producing a .611 batting average (11-for-18) • Selected as a first-team member of the All-Nebraska squad as a junior after hitting .442 with 42 hits, 32 RBIs, 33 runs, 10 stolen bases, 12 doubles, five triples and two homers in 30 games • Also starred on the mound with a 4-0 record and a 2.83 ERA over 34.2 innings with 48 strikeouts.
