Season Outlook (2018-19)
As one of three sophomores, Mari Butler will look to compete for a regular spot in the lineup as part of Nebraska's effort to replace All-American Dacotah Faught. Butler will enter the season with career averages of 550.67 in smallbore and 577.33 in air rifle.
Butler joined the Nebraska rifle team as one of three signees in 2017-18. Butler appeared a total of three times in both smallbore and air rifle. She posted a season-high smallbore score of 562 against Akron, as well as twice shooting a season-high air rifle score of 580 (West Virginia and Army West Point).
Butler was a member of the Buffalo Sharpshooters, under the direction of Coach Dan Geurts. Butler was a club teammate of former Husker All-American Dacotah Faught. She also has close ties with former Husker Kelsey Hansen. A native of Casselton, N.D., Butler attended Central Cass High School where she was a member of the Honor Roll, National Honor Society and Student Council. Butler also ran cross country and was a statistician for the volleyball, girls' basketball, softball and wrestling teams.
Mari was born on April 17, 1999 in Fargo, N.D. She is the daughter of Richard and Carrie Butler and has one brother, Soren. At Nebraska, she intends to major in biology or pre-physical therapy. She earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring of 2018. In her free time, Butler enjoys watching historical and scientific documentaries, reading books and writing short stories.
