Bio

1996 Season
Jill Nelsen appeared in 19 games for the Huskers in 1996. She recorded seven shots on goal, scoring two goals and two assists for a total of six points. She recorded both a goal and assist versus Loyola Marymount on Sept. 15 in a 9-1 win for NU. Her second goal came in a 4-0 Husker win over Tulsa, while she notched her second assist against Colorado in a 10-2 Nebraska victory.

Nelsen was a solid bench player that helped the Huskers to a 23-1-0 record and an appearance in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

High School
Nelsen earned first-team All-California honors from the California Interscholastic Federation in 1995 and 1996, and captured first-team Sky View League honors in 1994, 1995 and 1996. In 1994, she was named the Sky View League Most Valuable Player and the Daily Pilot Athlete-of-the-Year. She was named second-team All-Orange Country by the Los Angeles Times in 1995.

She showed her speed and soccer talent by scoring 64 goals in her career and led Newport Harbor in scoring during her sophomore season. She was also named Newport Harbor Most Valuable Offensive Player each of her four seasons.

Nelsen showed more speed on the softball diamond by leading the Sky View League in stolen bases in 1995. She was a California Interscholastic League All-Star in 1993, and Newport Harbor's most valuable player. She also made the Daily Pilot's Softball Dream Team. In three seasons, Nelsen stole a total of 48 bases.

Nelsen was also the freshman/sophomore volleyball team captain as a freshman. She was an honor roll student throughout her high school career and won special awards for her academic achievement.

Other Information
Nelsen played for the Mission Vejo Shamrocks, which played in the Under-17 national championship game in 1995. In 1993-94, she led the Fountain Valley Sting to a 43-3-1 record. A Coast Soccer League championship and a Coast League Cup championship.

Personal Information
Jill is the daughter of Steve Nelsen and Kay and Jim Collier. Jill has three brothers; Chad, 22, Sean, 19, and Matt, 8, and one sister, Michelle, 13. She was an elementary education major. She was born Aug. 31, 1978.
