Iowa City, Iowa - The Nebraska swimming
and diving team continued competition in the Hawkeye Invitational at the University
of Iowa's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center on Saturday.
Nebraska
began Saturday evening's finals with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley
relay. The team of Hayley Martin, Shannon Guy, Ashley Reiter, and Taryn Collura
posted a time of 1:41.63 that was bested only by Michigan in what was a solid
start to the day's competition.
Standout
performances in the pool came from Bailey Pons, Hayley Martin, and Shannon Guy.
Pons (1:49.39) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, Martin (54.74)
finished third in the 100-yard backstroke, and Guy (54.42) finished fourth in
the 100-yard butterfly. Martin added a sixth place finish in the 200-yard
freestyle and Guy also tallied an eighth place finish in the 100-yard
breaststroke.
Other
top-16 finishers were Katie Davis (400 IM), Taryn Collura (100 Fly), Natalie
Morris (100 Fly), Bria Deveaux (100 Fly), Katt Sickle (200 Free), Kelly Dunn
(200 Free), Ashley Reiter (100 Breast), Kristin Strecker (100 Breast), Kelsey
Larson (100 Breast), and Ellan Dufour (100 Back).
In
the diving well, Payton Michaud (322.05) and Amy Herman (311.75) took third and
fourth place, respectively, in the three-meter dive. Nicole Schwery finished eighth
and Kailey Harmon finished eleventh.
The
Huskers finished the day with a third place finish in the 800-yard freestyle
relay. Michigan won the event and Iowa took second place.
The
squad will return to action on Sunday morning as they look to finish the
