Lincoln – Nebraska football players Taylor Martinez and Ameer Abdullah are among the 29 players listed on the HeismanPundit/CBSSports.com Heisman Watch list released Thursday.
Martinez is a three-year starter at quarterback who enters his senior year with a school-record 9,449 yards of total offense, including a school-record 6,591 passing yards. He is also the nation’s top returning rusher, totaling 2,852 career rushing yards. As a junior, Martinez was a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches, totaling 3,890 total yards and 33 touchdowns to set NU records in both categories.
Abdullah returns for his junior year after a breakout season for the Huskers in 2012. He was a second-team All-Big Ten pick after rushing for 1,137 yards and eight touchdowns. He finished fourth in the Big Ten in all-purpose yards per game (134.6) and was a semifinalist for the Johnny “The Jet” Rodgers Return Specialist Award last season.
Nebraska is one of only four schools with multiple members on the watch list, joining Georgia, Alabama and Oregon.
The 2013 Heisman winner will be announced on Saturday, Dec. 14, in New York.
