Tulsa, Okla. -- Stefanie Weinstein advances to the quarterfinals of the singles main draw at the ITA/USTA Women's Central Region Tennis Championships.
The third round of the singles main draw showed mixed results for the Huskers. Stefanie Weinstein, seeded No. 16 going into the bracket, progressed to the quarterfinals sweeping past Oklahoma State's C.C. Sardinha 6-3, 6-3.
Fellow seniors No. 4 seed Patricia Veresova and No. 5 seed Janine Weinreich fought hard but missed the quarterfinals by a narrow margin. Veresova fell to Oklahoma's Hermon Brhane 5-7, 1-6 while Weinreich was defeated by Arkansas' Yang Pang 2-6, 6-3, 4-6.
Weinstein is slated to face No. 2 seeded Tulsa's Sam Vickers in her quarterfinal match.
Izabella Zgierska concluded her play in the consolation bracket. Zgierska rolled over Wichita State's Carla Venticinque 6-4, 6-4 in her second roung match. Advancing to the third round, Zgierska ender her tournament when she was ousted by Kansas State's Ivana Kubickova 6-2, 1-6, 0-1 (1-10).
Quarterfinals and semifinals of the singles main draw will be played today with the final match scheduled for tomorrow morning.
