2005-06 Season Outlook

Lana Baker hopes to finish her four-year career with a successful senior season.  The Long Beach, Calif., native has proven to be one of the best breaststrokers on the team during her career, and will add leadership and experience to a talented breaststroking squad.

2004-05 (Junior)

Baker was a top breaststroker for the Huskers during her junior season.  At the 2005 Big 12 Championships, Baker swam to a pair of top- 15 finishes in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, setting a career best in the 200 with a time of 2:23.93.  In dual competition, Baker consistently placed in the top five in the breaststroke events, and also finished 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Minnesota Invitational and 20th at the Texas Invitational.  Baker picked up a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke against UNO/UNC to go along with five top-five finishes in that event.  She also placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke at the San Diego Invite and against Kansas.  She set a season-best time of 1:06.34 in the final home meet of the year against Missouri to place third.

2003-04 (Sophomore)

Baker continued to post solid times in the breaststroke events as a sophomore, as she helped NU to its fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championships by finishing the 100-yard breast competition in 13th place in a time of 1:05.32.  She won the 100-yard breaststroke in NU's dual win over Nebraska-Omaha.

2002-03 (Freshman)

Baker was one of the most consistent Huskers in her freshman season.  She was the team's top performer in the breaststroke events and the lone Husker to qualify for the finals at the 2003 Big 12 Championships (sixth, 100-yard breast, 1:04.17).  Baker just missed an NCAA provisional cut in the 100-yard breast when she recorded NU's top time in the event at the Big 12 Championships.  Baker picked up wins in the 100-yard breaststroke against Wyoming, Kansas and Louisville.

Baker was a four-time letterwinner for Coach Maggie Twinem at Wilson High School, and the squad was undefeated in dual competition during her four years.  Baker was a four-time Moore League champion in the 100-yard breaststroke.  She set the league record in the 100-yard breast (1:05.50).  She also swam a leg on the record-setting 200-yard medley relay.

Lana is the daughter of Hazel and Doug Baker and was born on Oct. 19, 1984 in Long Beach, Calif.  She has two brothers, Larry and Scott.  Lana is majoring in sociology.
