Lincoln -- Despite a slight setback, Herbie Husker continues to train hard for his Aug. 30 debut.

Recently, during one of Herbie?s training sessions, Nebraska Sports Nutrition Coordinator James Harris III, noticed junk food in Herbie?s gym bag. Because of the setback, Herbie has had additional nutritional counseling with Harris and has also been assigned extra running and conditioning workouts with the football players.

Athletic Director Steve Pederson put Herbie on a strict regimen on Feb. 11. The 30-year old mascot has agreed to do his part to get in playing shape, so that he is able to more effectively entertain Husker fans at events. The conditioning plan will update Herbie's physical appearance, so that he will be a mascot that fits the Nebraska image of strength and power.

The next Herbie Husker Report will be issued the first week of July. Media are welcome to use the attached photos or the enclosed HuskerVision videotape in any and all news reports.
