Huskers to Compete at Morgan State Invitational

The Nebraska bowling team will take part in the Morgan State Invitational from Feb. 17-19. The three day tournament marks the sixth event of the season for the Husker squad. The tournament will be held in Towson, Md., at AMF Towson Lanes. The Huskers finished fourth at the Prairie View A&M Invitational earlier this month.
The event will feature a large field of 23 teams, including Nebraska, Bethune Cookman, Virginia State, Cheyney, Coppin State, Delaware State, Elmhurst, Fayetteville State, Florida A&M, Hampton, Howard, Kutztown, Morgan State, New Jersey City, North Carolina A&T, St. Francis, Central Missouri, Vanderbilt, North Carolina Central, Sacred Heart, Maryland Eastern Shore, Norfolk State and Fairleigh Dickinson.
Traveling with the Huskers will be Valerie Calberry, Kayla Johnson, Kristi Mickelson, Yan Ling, Shalima Zalsha and Liz Kuhlkin.
The Morgan State Invitational will follow a three round format featuring five rounds of four baker game matches on Friday. Saturday's competition will include five traditional team games and Sunday's final round will conclude with two match bracket play featuring best four-of-seven baker matches.
Following the Morgan State Invitational, the Huskers will be out of action for nearly a month in preparation for the final stretch of the season. Nebraska will travel to Nashville for the Music City Classic from March 16-18 for the final regular season event.
Review: Prairie View A&M Invite:
The Nebraska bowling team finished fourth at the Prairie View A&M Invitational held in Arlington, Texas from Feb. 3-5. Nebraska finished the invitational with a 10-3 record, tied record-wise with Vanderbilt, who won the invite. Third-place Arkansas State also finished with a 10-3 overall record. Maryland Eastern Shore finished the event in second-place with a 9-4 overall record and fifth-place Central Missouri finished with a 9-4 record as well.
Coming into Sunday, Nebraska was the second-seed but dropped consecutive matches to Vanderbilt and Arkansas State to finish fourth. NU ended 1-2 in bracket play in Sunday's final round.
Individually, the Nebraska bowling squad was well represented on the All-Tournament team, including All-Tournament Captain Kayla Johnson. Individually, she earned a 239 average on the tournament. NU's Kristi Mickelson and Liz Kuhlkin also earned spots on the All-Tournament squad. Mickelson finished sixth individually with a 221 average while Kuhlkin tallied a 217 average of her own for eighth-place.Final Results:
