By NU Athletic Communications

Lincoln -- University of Nebraska junior Jamal Turner was honored Monday, as he was chosen to the Jet Award watch list.

The Jet Award honors the best return specialist in college football. Drawing its name from former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny “The Jet” Rodgers, who was the 1972 Heisman winner and one of the top kick returners in NCAA history.

Turner was one of the Huskers’ top all-purpose threats in 2012, accounting for 607 all-purpose yards as a sophomore. He averaged 22.1 yards per kickoff return, including a season-high 35 yards against Idaho State. He also helped in the Huskers’ punt return game with six returns in 2012. In addition to his return abilities, Turner caught 32 passes for 417 yards and three scores, highlighted by a game-winning score against Michigan State.

Turner is one of six Big Ten players on the Jet Award watch List

From the initial watch list, a list of 12 semifinalists will be announced at the end of October and the list will be whittled down to four finalists in November with a winner announced in December.
