Last Time Out: Huskers Drop Consolation Match to Penn State
Nebraska fell to 10th-seeded Penn State, 4-0-1, in its final showing at the Big Ten Match Play Championship at The Concession Golf Club on Saturday, Feb. 15.

The loss came one day after the Huskers narrowly lost to Ohio State, 3-2-0, before falling to Wisconsin, 4-1-0. Freshman Justin Jennings and senior Mike Siwa picked up wins against the fifth-seeded Buckeyes, while junior Ross Dickson notched the lone victory against No. 11 Wisconsin.

Junior Josh Reinertson, making his first appearance of the season, managed to halve his match against the Nittany Lions’ Geoff Vartelas. Vartelas raced out to an early lead, winning each of the first four holes, but Reinertson responded by winning Nos. 5 and 8 to head to the back nine 2-Down.

After losing Hole No. 10, Reinertson won Nos. 11 and 13 before losing the 14th. Facing a 2-Down deficit with three holes to play, Reinertson won Nos. 16 and 17 before halving the 18th to tie the match.

Nebraska’s Calvin Freeman and Matt Record took each of their matches to the final hole, but ultimately fell by a 1-Up margin. Freeman, facing Xander McDonald-Smith, won Nos. 15 through 17 to tie the match before McDonald-Smith birdied the 18th for the victory.

Record, facing Jens Talbert, won Nos. 14, 16 and 17 to square the match before Talbert birdied the final hole.

Dickson fell by a 5&3 margin to JD Dornes, while Jennings dropped a 3&2 match to Chris Houston.
