  • Big 12 Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll (2010, 2011)

2010-11: Sophomore
Chelsea Finnegan began her fall season with play in the USTA/ITA Central Regionals, where she posted a 1-1 record in the Singles Qualifying bracket. Her victory came over Oklahoma State's Galina Semenova, in a hard-fought match (6-3, 5-7, 11-9). Finnegan's only singles matchup of the spring resulted in a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles and contributed to NU's 7-0 sweep of Creighton.

Finnegan was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring after achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA in both semesters. Finnegan's efforts in the classroom helped the women's tennis program earn the Herman Award, which is presented to the Nebraska team with the highest yearly GPA across all women's sports.

2009-10: Freshman
Injuries put a damper on Finnegan’s freshman season at Nebraska, though she was still able to play in four matches during the fall and spring for NU.

In the spring, Finnegan saw action in two matches for NU, including a thrilling three-set victory over Wichita State’s Iasmine Carpen to clinch Nebraska’s 4-3 team victory. Finnegan's second and final match of the spring resulted in a loss against Arkansas-Little Rock.

Finnegan earned spots on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

Before Nebraska
Finnegan was a three-time district champion at Broward Virtual School in Broward, Fla. She was also a part of a regional champion team in 2007, and was a Florida state doubles champion. Finnegan was named first-team All-Broward County and was ranked in the top 30 in the New England section.

Personal
Chelsea was born Aug. 6, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nev. She is the daughter of Charles and Diane Finnegan. Chelsea has two sisters, Ashley, who was a three-year letterwinner at Nebraska (2007-09), and Caitlin. Chelsea is majoring in political science at Nebraska and is a four-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.
