Nebraska football team practiced in pads for the first time this spring on
Wednesday at the Hawks Championship Center. Head Coach Bo Pelini spoke to the
media following practice.
was kind of like the first two practices; some good things, some things we've
got to get corrected, some things we've got to work on," Pelini said. "I'm

talked about how he can evaluate the players now that they are in pads.
playing football again once you get the pads on," Pelini said. "It's more of a

going to be tremendous competition at corner, really across the board," Pelini
said. "I think I said we are a deeper football team plus we have guys coming in
the fall that are going to compete for jobs. Competition has stepped up and

also said that it's too early to tell who's going to step up as leaders on the
defense but expects his team to come through to help the younger players.
is about going to work and putting your work in," Pelini said. "It's not easy.
It's not a fun time of the year. You don't have a game on the horizon. When it
gets difficult, that's where the leadership has to step up and that's where
they've got to show the enthusiasm and bring the young guys along. When someone
makes a mistake and is frustrated, someone has to help them come through that.
That's all part of the process."
