Former Husker Kelsey Griffin scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds, helping the Connecticut Sun to an 86-79 win over the Atlanta Dream in her professional debut on Tuesday.
Griffin, a 2010 first-team All-American and the Big 12 Player of the Year at Nebraska, hit 5-of-7 shots from the field, including her lone three-point attempt in just under 20 minutes of action off the bench. Fellow rookie Tina Charles, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft, led the Sun with 21 points, nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and six blocked shots as the Sun's starting center in her debut to lead all scorers.
Griffin and the Sun will continue WNBA preseason action on Thursday when they take on Poland. Former Husker Cory Montgomery will make her WNBA exhibition debut on Wednesday, when the New York Liberty face the Washington Mystics at 10:30 a.m. (central). Griffin and Montgomery are scheduled to go head-to-head in their preseason finales on May 11.
