London - The run by the Australian men's basketball team and former Husker Aleks
Maric came to an end on Wednesday, as the United States downed Australia,
119-86, in the quarterfinals at the 2012 London Olympics.
Maric saw
limited duty against the United States, totaling one point and two rebounds in
just over two minutes of action in the first quarter and did not see action the
rest of the contest.
When Maric
entered the game with 2:25 remaining in the first quarter, Australia was down
22-16 and Maric kept Australia within striking distance throughout the rest of
the quarter, trailing only 28-21 at the end of the first quarter.
Australia
stayed close until the fourth quarter, when they were outscored 35-16, as the
U.S. advanced to face Argentina, an 82-77 win over Brazil, in Friday's
semifinals.
Kobe Bryant
led six players for the U.S. in double figures with 20 points while Lebron
James had 11 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists for a triple double. Patrick Mills led Australia with 26 points
and six rebounds.
In the London
Olympics, Maric played in all six contests for Australia, making three starts,
and totaled 17 points and 16 rebounds in 53 minutes of action.
Maric and
Ade Dagunduro both wrapped up their Olympic action this week, as Nebraska was
one of only nine NCAA programs to have multiple basketball Olympians in London.
