Freshman
right-hander Emily Lockman was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the
second time in three weeks, the conference announced on Monday. Lockman shared
the honor with Michigan's Sierra Romero.
Lockman
made a pair of starts last weekend, picking up complete-game road victories at
No. 1 Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. On Saturday, Lockman scattered seven hits in
shutting out the top-ranked and previously unbeaten Sooners. Her effort snapped
OU's season-opening 17-game winning streak, as Lockman shut out a Sooner
offense that had averaged more than seven runs per game and had scored at least
two runs in every game. It also marked only the second time in school history that
Nebraska had defeated a No. 1 team.
On
Sunday, Lockman bounced back from a rough first inning to finish with six
consecutive scoreless innings in a complete-game victory against Oklahoma
State. With her performance last weekend, Lockman is now 6-1 on the year with a
1.45 ERA.
