Menís 4x400 Claims Runner-Up Finish at NCAA Championships

Albuquerque, N.M.- The Nebraska men’s 4x400-meter relay team capped a stellar indoor season with a runner-up finish at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday evening at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The team of Ricco Hall, Cody Rush, Drew Wiseman and Levi Gipson posted a school-record time of 3:05.25 to finish first in the second section of the event and hold on to a second-place finish overall. The squad led the second section for the entire race and in the end, proved why they’ve continually ranked as one of the nation’s elite relay teams all season.  LSU won the event with a time of 3:04.10.

“We knew coming in that we would run pretty fast because of the atmosphere here at the Championships,” Cody Rush said. “It’s always a surprise to see a time that fast come up. You know deep down that you’re capable, but it’s really cool to see it actually happen.”

Saturday’s race marked the second time this season that the team has broken the Nebraska school record, as the Huskers wiped away the previous record of 3:06.93 set on Feb. 15 at the Tyson Invitational. The runner-up finish propelled the men to a tie for 17th in the team standings, with 12 points.

The meet will air via tape delay on ESPNU on Saturday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. CT.
