Deeg in Top 10 Through Two Rounds at Red Sky
Cassie Deeg heads into Wednesday's final round tied for ninth in Colorado.

Wolcott, Colo. - Cassie Deeg added a second-round 76 to her opening-round 69 to sit in a tie for ninth after 36 holes at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club on Tuesday..

Deeg, a true freshman from Hugo, Minn., heads into Wednesday's final round in the hunt for her first career top-10 individual finish in just the second tournament of her young career. Her effort is coming in a loaded 18-team field with nine teams ranked among the nation's top 50, including No. 1 UCLA.

As a team, the Huskers sit in 11th place at 610 after producing a second-round 307 on Tuesday.While NU slipped from a tie for eighth (303) after the opening round, the Huskers extended their lead over No. 29 Florida State. The Seminoles slipped to 14th (615) after a 311 Tuesday. Nebraska also maintained its eight-stroke lead over No. 38 Tulsa.

No. 26 Pepperdine edged to a two-stroke lead in the team race with a two-round total of 575 after a 289 on Tuesday. No. 31 UC Davis gained some ground on the Waves with a tournament-best 285 to end the second round at 577. No. 25 Oklahoma slipped to third with a second-round 300 to close the first 36 holes at 586. 

No. 1 UCLA sits just six strokes ahead of the Huskers in a tie for eighth at 604 through two rounds.

Deeg's two-round total of 145 puts her seven shots back of tournament leader Demi Runas from UC Davis. Runas scorched the 6,236-yard, par-72 layout at Red Sky for a tournament-best 67 on Tuesday to close the day at 138. Runas holds a tenuous one-shot lead over Pepperdine's Grace Na.(70-69-139).

While Deeg is seven strokes behind the leader, she is just three strokes back of third-place Anne-Catherine Tangu from Oklahoma at 142.

Husker junior Katelyn Wright added a 76 of her own in the second round to remain in the top 20. The Incline Village, Nev., native heads into the final round in a tie for 16th at 147. 

Fellow junior Steffi Neisen (New Prague, Minn.) strung together a second-round 77 to climb nine spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 52nd (156). Redshirt freshman Jackie O'Doherty (Lincoln, Neb.) also provided NU with a solid 78 Tuesday.

 

The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. (central). Live scoring for the tournament is available on GolfStat.com.
