Wright Leads Huskers at Clover Cup

Mesa, Ariz. - Katelyn Wright led the Nebraska women's golf team with a two-over-par 74 to remain in a tie for seventh place individually after two rounds at the Clover Cup on the Longbow Golf Course on Saturday.

Wright, a senior from Incline Village, Nev., closed the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event with a two-over-par 146 on the par-72, 6,209-yard layout at Longbow.

Fellow senior Steffi Neisen added a 76 to close the second round in a tie for 28th at 151. Sophomore Cassie Deeg managed a 78 to enter Sunday's final round in a tie for 47th at 155 in the 87-player field.

Sophomore Cassidy Stelzmiller settled for an 82 to provide the Huskers with their fourth score on Saturday. Stelzmiller is tied for 79th at 163.

As a team, the Huskers posted a 310 on the day, after freshman Jordan Chael's round did not count because she signed an incorrect scorecard. Chael opened the tournament with a 76 to enter the second round in a tie for 19th.

The Huskers slipped from fifth into a tie for ninth in the 15-team field with a two-round total of 610.

Sophomore Morgan Smejkal put together a solid round of 77 on Saturday playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup. She climbed 10 spots into a tie for 70th at 161 heading into the final 18 holes.

Colorado closed the second day of competition in first place with a two-round total of 589. However, Louisville trimmed the Buffaloes' lead to just two strokes, as the Cardinals fired a second-round 292 to end the day at 591. The hosts from Notre Dame sit in third at 595, while Michigan enters the final round nine strokes off the lead at 598. East Carolina rounds out the top five in the team standings at 601.

Colorado's Jennifer Coleman heads into the final round on top of the individual leaderboard at 139 (69-70). Coleman owns a tenuous one-stroke lead over Notre Dame's Kristina Nhim (68-72-140) and Michigan's Grace Choi (69-71-140).

The tournament continues Sunday with the final 18 holes at Longbow. Live scoring will be available at Huskers.com.
