Dickson Ties for Third in Illinois

Normal, Ill. - Sophomore Ross Dickson fired a 70 in the final round of the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate on Sunday, leading the Nebraska men's golf team to a tie-for-seventh place finish.

The Huskers improved in each successive round at the Weibring Golf Course, shooting 291 in the final round after 318 and 303 on Saturday. Nebraska's 912 total tied Miami (Ohio) for seventh. Big Ten foe Illinois won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 870.

Dickson entered the final round tied for seventh, but surged into a tie for third after a 70 in the final round. His 218 total finished five strokes behind individual champion Pep Angles of Central Arkansas. Dickson, a London, England native, opened the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate with a 78 before carding a 70 in Saturday's second round. The tie-for-third is his second consecutive top-10 finish to start the season.

Kevin Gillick and Kolton Lapa tied for 39th at 231 strokes. Gillick posted 72 in the final round after an 82 and 77 in the first and second rounds. Lapa shot 73 on Sunday to go along with his 76 and 82 on Saturday.

Jordan Reinertson finished one stroke behind Gillick and Lapa at 232. Reinertson, a Gibbon, Neb., native, shot a final-round 76. He opened with a first-round 82 on Saturday before bouncing back with a 74 in the second round.

Freshman Aaron Wong finished 80th at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. Wong carded an 80 in Sunday's final round for a three-round total of 252. He shot 88 and 84 in Saturday's rounds.

The Huskers return to action Oct. 8-9 when they head to Akron, Ohio for the Firestone Invitational. Last year the Huskers finished 12th at Firestone.
