Lincoln - The White team polished off a three-game sweep of the Red squad on Saturday in the Nebraska baseball team's annual Red-White Series by a score of 12-7. Michael Pritchard, Kash Kalkowski and Michael Siwa each had three hits for the Whites, including two doubles and two RBIs for Kalkowski, as well as a triple and double for Siwa. The Red's Chad Christensen blasted the first and only home run of the series with a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning for his only hit of the game.
Tyler King started for the White team and gave them a solid four innings, as he gave up just four hits and struck out four. Five other pitchers combined to work the final five innings, including freshman Aaron Bummer, who got the win.
After putting up two runs in the top of the first, the White team took a commanding 8-0 lead with six runs in the second. The Whites started the inning with four consecutive hits and a walk, including a double from Siwa. Following the first out of the inning, Kalkowski plated two more runners with a single, before Zach Hirsch posted a strikeout and got Sam Stucky to groundout to end the inning.
The Reds answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to get on the board, but would not strike again until Christensen's homer in the eighth. The two runs in the second got started with a two-out hit-by-pitch of Richard Stock, who then scored on a double from Austin Christensen. Kurt Farmer followed with a single to score Christensen, but the rally was cut short when King got Jory Goldstrom to fly out to center.
The Huskers will finish fall practice this week and will then set their sights on the 2012 season.
