Lincoln, Neb. – Nebraska Head Coach Gary Pepin announced the 2014 Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field schedules on Wednesday. The Huskers will look to add another Big Ten Championship in 2014 after the men’s team won the 2013 Big Ten Outdoor Championship last spring.
NU will host six teams that finished in the top 25 at the 2013 NCAA Championships during the 2014 season. The Huskers will welcome the Central Florida women to the Devaney Center after the Golden Knights finished fifth at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2013. Also coming to the Devaney Center will be SEC power Auburn, Pac-12 frontrunner USC, Big Ten foes Iowa and Illinois (men only) and former Big 12 opponent Kansas State.
Nebraska will open the indoor season by hosting the Nebraska Intrasquad on Friday, Dec. 13 at the Devaney Center. The Huskers will then host the Holiday Inn Invitational on Jan. 17-18 and will participate in the NWU Invitational on Jan. 24.
Nebraska hosts the Mark Colligan Memorial on Saturday, Jan. 25 as Wichita State, UT Arlington and Oral Roberts will all compete at the Devaney Center. The Huskers will then travel to the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational and will compete against Air Force, Arizona State, LSU and New Mexico on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Nebraska returns home to host the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Feb. 7-8. This year the Huskers will welcome some of the nation’s best to the annual event at the Devaney Center, including Central Florida, Auburn, Iowa, Kansas State, the Illinois men, USC and Colorado State as well as other strong programs.
The Huskers will then hit the road on Feb. 14-15 for the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., and the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. NU will close the home indoor season on Friday, Feb. 21 with the Nebraska Tune-Up.
The 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships will take place Feb. 28 through March 1 in Geneva, Ohio. Nebraska will then travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships March 14-15.
NU opens the 2014 outdoor season on March 28-29 with the Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., while the Huskers will also travel to the ESU Spring Open in Emporia, Kan., on March 29. The Huskers will hit the road for the Texas Tech Open on April 5 in Lubbock, Texas, and will return home to host the Nebraska Quad on Saturday, April 12, with South Dakota State, Oral Roberts and Northern Colorado.
The Kansas Relays will take place on April 16-19 in Lawrence, Kan., while the Mt. SAC Relays will also go on at that time in Walnut, Calif.
Nebraska will hold the Pre-Drake Meet on April 23 at Ed Weir Stadium, before heading to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 23-26. The Huskers will also compete at the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif., on April 25-26. NU will then travel to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Musco Invitational on Saturday, May 3.
The Nebraska Invitational will be on Saturday, May 10, before the Huskers head to the 2014 Big Ten Outdoor Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., on May 16-18.
The Huskers will look for a strong postseason showing at the NCAA Championships Preliminary Round in Fayetteville, Ark., on May 29-31. The NCAA Championships Final Round will be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 11-14.
