Huskers Finish Seventh at Wimberly Intercollegiate

Las Cruces, N.M. - The Nebraska men's golf team shot a final-round 289 on Tuesday at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate to tie for seventh.

The Huskers, who entered the day in sixth, finished 20 strokes behind team champion Wichita State at the NMSU Golf Course, a par-71, 7,074-yard layout. The Huskers shot 861 over 54 holes. On Monday Nebraska opened with a first-round 287 before a 285 in the second round.

Kolton Lapa led the Huskers with a tie for seventh. The freshman fired a 1-over-par 72 in Tuesday's final round for a three-round total of 211. He finished six shots behind co-individual champions Chris Gilbert of Kansas and Blake Biddle of UNLV. Lapa shot rounds of 70 and 69 on Monday.

Junior Matt Record came in with the best NU score on Tuesday, posting an even-par 71. Record's 217 total over 54 holes earned him a tie for 28th. He shot a pair of 73s in the first two rounds.

Ross Dickson tied for 30th at 218 strokes. The sophomore from London, England carded a 4-over-par 75 on Tuesday. He added 72 and 71 on Monday.

Neil Dufford, the lone senior in the Husker lineup in New Mexico, tied for 53rd. Dufford shot two bookend rounds of 72 to go along with an 80 in Monday's second round. His three-round total was 224.

Manuel Lavin paced his way to a 3-over-par 74 in Tuesday's final round. The junior used rounds of 79 and 72 on Monday for his 225 stroke total. Lavin tied for 59th.

The Huskers will conclude their fall season on Friday and Saturday at the UTEP Miner Invitational in El Paso, Texas. The tournament will start with a 9:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun at Butterfield Trail Golf Course.
