Willman Falls Short of U.S. Amateur Field
Cherry Hills Village, Colo. - Former Husker Scott Willman tied for 82nd in the U.S. Amateur stroke play qualifying on Tuesday after shooting 4-over-par 145. He fell two strokes short of the top 64, which qualified for the match play portion of the tournament.
Willman opened the two-day qualifying portion on Monday at Cherry Hills Country Club, shooting a 2-over-par 73 at the 7,403-yard layout. The Prairie Village, Kan., native made three birdies and five bogeys in the round.
Willman's second round was contested at CommonGround Golf Course on Tuesday. He finished with a 2-over-par 72 at the 7,427-yard layout. Willman suffered one double bogey and two bogeys to go along with two birdies.
Bobby Wyatt of Mobile, Ala., finished with the best qualifying score on Tuesday after a 9-under-par 132. He fired a 64 on the first day before a 68 in the second round. The match play portion of the U.S. Amateur continues this week before concluding on Sunday.
