Huskers Add Two Event Wins at Drake Relays

Des Moines, Iowa- The Nebraska track and field team completed competition at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday. The Huskers added two event titles on the day as Mara Griva won the women’s triple jump and the men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Levi Gipson, Christian Sanderfer, Cody Rush and Janis Leitis won their event.

Griva notched her second title of the weekend with the triple jump crown after earning the long jump title on Friday. She recorded a season-best leap of 44-3 ½ (13.50) for first in the event. Her leap ranks third in the nation and first in the Big Ten. Ellie Ewere tallied a ninth-place finish with a season-best mark of 39-9 ¾ (12.13). 

Jessica Furlan captured a third-place finish in the women’s 1,500 meters as she posted a personal-best time of 4:15.17. Her time ranks fifth in the NCAA, first in the Big Ten entering this weekend and fourth all-time in the Nebraska record books. Jarren Heng finished fourth in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, recording a time of 9:04.98.

Miles Ukaoma recorded a third-place finish in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 50.73. Tibor Koroknai was fourth with a time of 51.53. Koroknai went on to finish seventh in the men’s 110-meter hurdle finals with a season-best time of 14.38.

The men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Gipson, Sanderfer, Rush and Leitis took home the event win with a season-best time of 3:03.79. The time ties for third all-time in the Nebraska record books and is third in the nation and first in the Big Ten.

Mara Weekes, Ellie Grooters, Mila Andric and Shawnice Williams tallied a third-place finish in the women’s 4x400-meter relay. The squad recorded a season-best time of 3:37.45, which ranks second in the Big Ten. 

The men’s 4x100-meter relay team of John Welk, Dexter McKenzie, Nikita Pankins and Tim Thompson tallied a sixth-place finish behind a time of 40.51.  In the women’s 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle relay, the Husker squad of Jordan Stiens, Anne Martin, Greta Kerekes and Jourdan Doffeny finished fifth overall with a time of 58.34.

Nebraska returns home next Saturday as the Huskers host the Nebraska Invitational at Ed Weir Stadium.
