Two More Husker Records Fall in Session Four

Minneapolis, Minn. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team completed the fourth session of the Big Ten Championships on Friday morning at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Huskers competed in the preliminary rounds of the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke.

In the morning's first event, Katie Davis finished 26th in the 400-yard IM preliminaries with a career-best time of 4:21.77. The senior finished 12 spots higher than her 38th place finish in the event last season.

26th - Katie Davis, 4:21.77 (career best)

40th - Ashleigh Grammar, 4:36.13

41st - Michaela Cunningham, 4:47.06

The session's second event saw Shannon Guy finish sixth in the 100-yard butterfly prelims with a time of 53.23 seconds, besting Mariah Hutchinson's previous school record of 54.16 set in 2009. Guy's time also qualified her for Friday evening's A Final and earned her an NCAA B Cut.

Bria Deveaux (54.91) and Taryn Collura (55.11) also set career-best times in the event, finishing in 21st and 25th, respectively. Both Deveaux and Collura qualified for the C Final on Friday evening.

25th - Taryn Collura, 55.11 (career best)

29th - Natalie Morris, 55.31

47th - Melisa Mexia, 57.02 (career best)

In the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries, Bailey Pons finished 31st with a time of 1:50.01. Senior Sara Weinberg set a career best with her time of 1:56.41.

Ashley Reiter took 26th in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims with her time of 1:03.68, while Kelsey Larson and Kristin Strecker finished back-to-back in 34th and 35th places, respectively.

In the session's final event, Senior Hayley Martin broke her own school record in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing ninth with a time of 53.81 seconds. Martin set the previous record at December's Iowa Invitational when she finished in 54.25 seconds. Her time qualified her for Friday evening's B Final and earned her an NCAA B Cut.

Senior Ellan Dufour also earned an NCAA B Cut with her career-best time of 54.98 seconds. Dufour will compete in the C Final on Friday evening.
