As the Nebraska bowling team uses spring break for some much needed recovery time before starting preparations for the NCAA Tournament, let’s take a quick break to look at some news surrounding the Huskers.
NU is currently ranked No.1 in the NTCA poll, moving up from third place in the previous poll for the month of February. The poll is compiled together by total pinfall numbers from each team as well as votes from coaches around the country.
Currently the Huskers wait for the NCAA Selection Show on March 27 at 3 p.m. (CT) to find out their seed for the NCAA Championships in Canton, Mich. The selection committee will look at total pinfall as well as strength of schedule to determine which eight teams will be selected. The NCAA Championships will be held from April 11-13.
The week following the NCAA Tournament, two current Huskers will compete in the first annual USBC Intercollegiate Championships in Lincoln at Sun Valley Lanes. Senior Kristi Mickelson and sophomore Liz Kuhlkin will represent the Huskers during the weekend of competition from April 16-20. The following is a quote from the newly organized event (bowl.com).
“USBC Collegiate (formerly known as College Bowling USA), along with the support of ABC and WIBC, announced the creation of the Intercollegiate Singles Championships (formerly the Collegiate Singles Championships) to be held at the completion of the collegiate bowling season. The event replaced the Association of College Unions International Men's and Women's National Championships and features the top 24 male and top 16 female collegiate bowlers in the country competing for national singles titles.”
Kuhlkin, a sophomore has been one of the biggest surprises this year for the Huskers, as she is routinely the leader on the alley for NU. Kuhlkin has earned a spot on all-tournament team four teams during her sophomore campaign, which leads the Huskers.
