Three members of the No. 8 Nebraska women's gymnastics team earned a total of seven regular season All-America awards from the National Collegiate Gymnastic Coaches Association (NACGC/W) on Friday. Jessie DeZiel, Janelle Giblin and Emily Wong all captured honors for their performances throughout the Huskers' 2013 campaign.
Wong led all NU gymnasts with four total first-team All-America awards, garnering honors on bars, beam, floor and in the all-around. DeZiel captured a pair of first-team laurels on vault and in the all-around, and Giblin picked up second-team accolades on uneven bars.
A native of Grand Forks, N.D., Wong is the nation's No. 4 all-around gymnast with an regional qualifying score (RQS) of 39.610. She is also ranked in the top eight on bars (9.920), beam (9.900) and floor (9.925). Wong earned her second consecutive Big Ten title in the all-around last weekend, earning a career-best 39.725 in competition.
DeZiel is ranked No. 8 nationally in the all-around, holding an RQS of 39.525. Hailing from Rogers, Minn., DeZiel also took home first-team honors on vault (9.930) for her regular season efforts. She finished second in all-around competition at the 2013 Big Ten Championship and captured a share of the conference title on vault.
Giblin snagged second-team honors on uneven bars to cap a stellar regular season on the event. Ranked 12th nationally on the event with an RQS of 9.905, she became only the second gymnast in program history to post a perfect 10.0 on bars against Iowa last March.
The NACGC/W awarded regular season All-America honors for the first time this season. Gymnasts were chosen based on their RQS entering NCAA Regional competition. The top eight ranked gymnasts in each event and the all-around earned first-team awards, while second-team honors were granted to those ranked ninth to 16th. All ties between gymnasts stood.
