Lincoln, Neb. - Nebraska junior Josh Ihnen and senior Tucker Lane each earned a spot on the Capital One First-Team Academic All-District VII team after their performances on the mat and in the classroom during the 2011-12 season. The All-District teams were announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Lane and Ihnen were two of 11 student-athletes named to the District VII All-Large first team, which qualifies them for Capital One All-America honors. COSIDA Academic All-America teams will be announced on Thursday, June 7.
Ihnen graduated from Nebraska with an undergraduate degree in finance in December of 2011, finishing in only seven semesters with a 3.88 GPA. On the mat, Ihnen was one of two Nebraska wrestlers to earn All-America honors by finishing in eighth place at 184 pounds at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, despite suffering a knee injury in the consolation bracket. The Sheldon, Iowa, native finished with a 26-8 overall record and was the Big Ten runner-up at his weight.
Lane hopes to become a two-time Academic All-American having earned second-team honors in 2011. The four-year starter at heavyweight eclipsed the 100-win mark as a senior and finished the year with a 27-9 overall record. The Redvale, Colo., native is working towards his Master's degree after graduating in communications studies in the spring of 2011. Lane finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.94.
