Jennings Called Up by Marlins

Lincoln - Dan Jennings became the latest
Husker to be reach the Majors, as the Florida Marlins called up the reliever on
Sunday, April 29. A ninth-round pick by the Marlins in 2008, Jennings began his
career as a starter before converting to a reliever in 2009. He reached
Triple-A New Orleans in 2010 and had a 2.08 ERA over 8.2 innings of work with
10 strikeouts for the Zephyrs this season.
A product of
Valley High in West Des Moines, Iowa, Jennings joined the Huskers in 2006 and
pitched three seasons at Nebraska before being drafted following his junior
season. A 2008 honorable-mention All-Big 12 pick, Jennings was 6-3 with four
saves as a junior with a 3.39 ERA. The lefty struck out 75 batters in 77
innings in 2008 and tossed 30.1 consecutive scoreless innings from March 18
until April 22.
Jennings'
call up comes less than two weeks after Thad Weber earned his first trip to the
Majors with the Detroit Tigers. Steve Edlefsen was also recalled by the San
Francisco Giants on Saturday, April 30. Edlefsen was first called up by the
Giants last August.
