Topeka, Kan. - The Nebraska swimmers
had another solid showing on Day Two of the Kansas Classic at Topeka's Capital
Federal Natatorium.
Hayley
Martin was the star of Session One's preliminaries, winning both the 200-yard
freestyle (1:50.03) and 100-yard backstroke (55.13) and setting herself up as
the top seed in the evening's finals.
The
Huskers began Session Two with a second place finish to Notre Dame in the
200-yard medley relay. In the middle events, Hayley Martin and Shannon Guy led
the way. Martin placed second in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.11) and
100-yard backstroke (55.11) finals, while Guy finished third and fourth in the
100-yard butterfly (56.24) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.04) finals,
respectively.
Additionally,
Bailey Pons finished fourth and Katt Sickle finished fifth in the 200-yard
freestyle. Ellan Dufour added a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard
backstroke.
Other
top-16 Husker finishers were Katie Davis (400 IM), Natalie Morris (100
Butterfly), Morgan Flannigan (200 Free), Ashley Reiter (100 Breast), Kelsey
Larson (400 IM), Melisa Mexia (100 Butterfly), Kelly Dunn (200 Free), and
Kristin Strecker (100 Breast).
Nebraska
finished the day with a third place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Kansas
took first and Notre Dame took second.
The
squad will return to action on Sunday morning as they look to finish off the
Kansas Classic strong, with first place still in sight. Check back in for
updates as the Huskers continue competition, beginning at 9 a.m.
Houston, Tex. - The
Nebraska divers finished competition in the Phill Hansel Invite at the CRWC
Natatorium on Saturday. Just two Huskers competed in the platform dive, with freshman
Nicole Schwery finishing eighth after posting a finals score of 230.00.
Amy
Herman finished 11th with a preliminary score of 217.55, and the
Huskers placed 14th out of the 15 teams at the meet due to the fact
that they only competed in diving events.
The
Husker divers will next compete in the Hawkeye Invitational beginning Nov. 30 in Iowa City, Iowa. After that, the squad will not compete again until Holiday Training in January, and not
officially until the swimming and diving team's home meet against San Diego
State on January 19.
