Filipcic Claims Spot at NCAA Championships

Minneapolis, Minn. - Husker freshman Anna Filipcic edged Big Ten champion Maggie Keefer for fourth place and a trip to the NCAA Championships in the three-meter dive, as the Huskers finished the second day of competition at the Zone D Diving Meet on Tuesday evening at the University of Minnesota's Aquatic Center.

Filipcic took sixth in the preliminary session and earned a place in the evening's finals with a score of 330.85. In the finals, the freshman from Omaha, Neb., recorded her second-best score of the season, 346.65, slipping past Minnesota's Keefer, who finished just over two points behind Filipcic. 

With her fourth-place finish, Filipcic advances to the NCAA Championship meet held March 20-22 at the same location, the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Filipcic becomes the first Husker diver to reach the NCAA Championships since Amie Buoy finished 18th in the three-meter dive in 2005. 

Nebraska's Nicole Schwery (300.60) and Payton Michaud (228.20) also competed in the event, finishing 16th and 39th. Schwery placed 15th in the preliminary round with a score of 293.40. 

Tuesday evening marked the end of Michaud's Husker diving career. The senior contributed 51 top-five finishes and 23 victories in four years with the squad. Michaud was also a part of 25 dual-meet victories, including last season's school-record 12-win season.

39th - Payton Michaud, 228.20

Nicole Schwery is the lone Husker competing in the platform dive on Wednesday, the final day of the zone diving competition. Check back in to for updates, as competition is set to begin at 11 a.m.
