Willman Four Shots Back in Norman

Norman, Okla. - Husker senior golfer Scott Willman is tied for 48th after shooting a 3-over-par 75 in the first round of the NCAA Norman Regional on Thursday.

Willman opened the round at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club with two pars before making bogey and double bogey on the third and fourth holes, respectively. The Prairie Village, Kan., native closed the front nine with five pars en route to a 3-over-par 39.

Willman posted pars on Nos. 10-12 before bogeying the par-5 13th. He responded, however, with four straight pars before a birdie on the par-5 18th hole. His back nine 36 gives him a 75 with two rounds to play.

Willman is one of five individuals playing at the Norman Regional. Nevada's Kevin Lucas led the individuals on Thursday with a 1-under-par 71. He is tied for 15th overall and four shots clear of Willman. UTEP's Martin Simonsen (T-20th) carded an even-par 72, while Arkansas-Little Rock's Alfred Kerstis (T-27th) shot 73 and Stephen F. Austin's Mitchell McLeroy (T-55th) posted 76. The top individual after three rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

In the team competition, Florida State and Texas are tied atop the leaderboard at 279 strokes. The Longhorns' Jordan Spieth leads overall after firing a 6-under-par 66 on Thursday.

The NCAA Norman Regional continues on Friday with the second round. Players will tee off at 8 a.m. (CST). The final round will be contested on Saturday. Live scoring can be found at the following this link.
