Huskers Enter Final Day Seeking Top 10

Palm Desert, Calif. – Senior Matt Record shot 2-under-par 70 in the second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Saturday to lead the Nebraska men’s golf team heading into the final day.

The Huskers broke 300 for the second consecutive day, managing a 293 total on Saturday. Nebraska opened the tournament on Friday with a first-round 291 and enters Sunday’s final 18 holes in 13th place. The Huskers’ 584 total through 36 holes is five strokes out of 10th place.

Record achieved his best round of the season in 11 attempts with his second-round 70. He carded 72 on Friday and heads into the final round tied for 26th.

Fellow senior Mike Siwa is tied for 50th at 146 strokes after two rounds. Siwa posted 3-over-par 75 on Saturday after opening the tournament with a 71 on Friday.

Nebraska native Calvin Freeman managed NU’s second-best score of the day with his 73 at The Classic Club, a par-72, 7,305-yard configuration. Freeman showed improvement from his first-round 75. He is tied for 66th with junior Ross Dickson at 148 strokes. Dickson shot 75 during Saturday’s action after 73 on Friday.

Justin Jennings, a freshman, paced his way to a 4-over-par 76 in Saturday’s second round to go along with his 78 in the opening round. He has totaled 154 strokes after 36 holes at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

Oregon leads Colorado by one stroke in the team race with a 555 total heading into Sunday’s final round. Oregon State’s David Fink leads the individual competition with 8-under-par 136 after two rounds.

The final round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate tees off on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT on both nines.
