Omaha, Neb. - The
Nebraska cross country team competed in its first meet of the season Saturday
morning at the UNO/Creighton Classic at the Chili Greens Complex in Omaha,
Neb.
Both the men’s and women’s teams finished second behind South Dakota in the meet. Head Coach David Harris was pleased with how his team competed in
their first meet of the season.
“I thought we did a good job today,” said Harris. “It was a
great experience for our freshmen to compete in their first collegiate event in
their careers.”
Leading the way for the men’s team was junior Jarren Heng.
The native of Norfolk, Neb., finished
second (27:49.3), even though he ran conservativly in the first half of the race
to help lead the Husker newcomers in their first meet.
“Jarren has trained well so far in the season, and it really
showed today," said Harris. "He had a great race.”
Also competing well for the Huskers was freshman Jacob
Olson. In his first meet of his career Olson finished fifth, running a time of
27:49.3.
“Jacob had a very solid race today,” said Harris said. “We are very excited to see
what he can do the rest of the season.”
Leading the way on the women’s side was junior co-captain
Sarah Plambeck. Plambeck ran a time of 19:55.4, placing sixth in the meet.
Also helping the Huskers place second overall as a team was sophomore Sarah
Larson and junior Isabel Andrade. Larson placed seventh, running a time of
20:00.0, while Andrade finished eighth (20:00.4).
“I was very pleased how our captains led the way today for
us today,” Harris said. “Sarah and Isabel did a great job today.”
The Huskers will have next weekend off while they prepare
for their only home meet of the season, the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational. The meet is scheduled for
