The Nebraska women's tennis opens the fall season this weekend at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14.
In singles play, participating in the first round from the Huskers are freshmen Maggy Lehmicke and Lauren Wagner. Lehmicke faces Texas A&M's Alyssa Caffey, while Wagner duels UT-Arlington's Brook Dennis.
Izabella Zgierska, Stefanie Weinstein, Patricia Veresova, Janine Weinreich and Maike Zeppernick all earned first-round byes in the tournament.
Zgierska will take on Stephen F. Austin's Nataly Yoo. Stefanie Weinstein, seeded No. 6, plays TCU's Monika Sirilova. Veresova, seeded No. 4, faces TCU's Olivia Smith. Weinreich will go against the victor of a first-round match between Abilene Christian and Texas Tech. Zeppernick will be challenged by Texas State's Jessica Kahts.
In doubles action, six of eight Huskers will see action. Veresova and Lehmicke partner in a match against Texas A&M's Alyssa Caffey and Anna Mamalat. Weinreich and Weinstein, seeded No. 4, team up against UT-Arlington's Brook Dennis and Giada D'Ortona. Zgierska and Zeppernick pair to face Abilene Christian's Julia Mongin and Brittney Reed.
In addition to Nebraska, the field of teams in the tournament include: Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Baylor, Davidson, Penn State, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Texas, Texas-Arlington, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Tyler Junior College, Wichita State.
The Racquet Collegiate features competitors from more than a dozen men's and women's teams across multiple collegiate divisions competing at the Racquet Club of Midland, Trinity Tennis Center and the Midland College Tennis Center.
