Former Husker gymnasts Deanna Barmore, Janelle Giblin and Brittany Skinner were among the 57 student-athletes who received their diplomas during spring commencement on Saturday, May 10 at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Giblin was a two-time first-team All-American and a three-time second-team All-American who earned her degree in nutrition sciences on Saturday. A native of San Ramon, Calif., she captured a spot in Husker history by posting a perfect 10.00 on bars at her senior meet against Iowa.
Skinner, a two-time All-American will receive her degree in psychology. She was one of the Huskers’ top vaulters in her senior season, capturing four event titles and a top 20 national ranking. Skinner was the Big Ten Co-Vault champion hitting a 9.95 mark.
Barmore, a NACGC Scholastic All-American, graduated with a bachelors in nutrition exercise and health sciences.
NU’s May 2014 graduates came from near and far to call Nebraska home during their careers. The group came to Lincoln from 13 states, including 22 native Nebraskans. Members of the graduating class also came from five foreign countries, including Canada, Germany, Hungary, Latvia and Singapore.
Nebraska continues to feature one of the highest graduation rates in the country, while leading the nation in the number of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans (310) and NCAA Top 10 Award winners (17) across all sports.
