Lincoln, Neb. - The
Nebraska swimming and diving team defeated Nebraska-Omaha 154-83 on Friday at
the HPER Swimming Pool in Omaha, Neb., and 154-81 on Saturday at the Devaney
Natatorium. The wins improved Nebraska's dual record to 4-0 on the season after
last weekend's victories against North Dakota and St. Cloud State. They also
improved to 17-0 all time against UNO.
On Friday, the Huskers won nine out of the eleven individual
events, while winning both the 400-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays. A
number of swimmers contributed to the victory, but junior Payton Michaud and
senior Hayley Martin played significant roles on the day. Michaud won both the
one-meter dive (289.57) and the three-meter dive (310.65), while Martin won the
50-yard freestyle (23.87) and was a part of both winning relay teams.
Other Husker winners on Friday were Bailey Pons (1,000-yard
free), Katt Sickle (200-yard free), Natalie Morris (200-yard fly), Ariel Weech
(100-yard free), Ellan Dufour (200-yard back), and Morgan Flannigan (500-yard
free).
On Saturday, the Huskers won all eleven individual events
and both relays. Juniors Shannon Guy and Bailey Pons led the squad, each
winning two events on the day. Guy was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke
(1:05.82) and 100-yard butterfly (57.57), while Pons took first place in the 500-yard
freestyle (5:01.96) and 1,650-yard freestyle (17:22.10).
Morgan Flannigan (200-yard free), Ariel Weech (50-yard
free), Katie Davis (200-yard IM), Kelly Dunn (100-yard free), Ellan Dufour
(100-yard back), Amy Herman (one-meter dive), and Payton Michaud (three-meter
dive) were the other event winners for the Huskers.
Nebraska will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 26, when
they travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State and South Dakota at 5 p.m.
