Huskers Head to Mid-Winter Invitational
Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska bowling team will resume its 2012-13 season over the weekend as the team travels to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State University. Competition begins Friday and ends Sunday morning.
Even though the Huskers have not competed as a team since the final day of the Track Kat Klash on Dec. 2, Head Coach Bill Straub believes his team will show up strong during this weekend’s competition, due to some strong individual competitions some Huskers participated in during the Holiday break.
“We have had a lot of players that have spent Christmas break playing in tournaments,” Straub said. “So with that being said I think our team will be ready to compete this weekend, and we are excited for the start.”
Two key current members on NU’s team competed at the highest level over the long break. Sophomore Elise Bolton and senior Kristina Mickelson competed at the USBC Team USA tryouts this past weekend. Bolton finished tied for fourth in the overall competition and was second in the junior division with a total pinfall of 6,246, earning her fourth appearance on the Junior Team USA squad. Mickelson also competed well during the tryouts, placing 59th in competition. The senior tallied a total pinfall of 5,645.
The Huskers will face stiff competition while at the Mid-Winter Invitational, as they will face a tough 16-team field. Some teams to note that will be competing are traditional powers Central Missouri, Vanderbilt and Sam Houston State to name a few.
