The No. 16 Huskers were selected to play host to the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history, when the NCAA Tournament field was announced earlier this week. Nebraska’s four-team bracket includes a first-round match between No. 27 Tulsa (19-6) and No. 57 UNLV (19-7) on Friday, May 10 at 11 a.m. The Huskers (22-5) take on Wichita State (15-10) Friday, May 10 at 2 p.m.

The exciting weekend of women’s tennis action concludes with Friday’s winners going head-to-head on Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m. for a chance to advance to the round of 16 in the NCAA Championship, May 16-21 in Urbana, Ill.

Nebraska, which finished the regular season with a 22-5 record that included a 10-1 conference mark and a share of the Big Ten regular-season title, earned a top-16 seed in the tournament field. Mary Weatherholt leads a group of four talented and experienced seniors for the Huskers. Weatherholt is ranked No. 11 nationally in singles and earned a spot Thursday for the NCAA Singles Championship. She will join fellow senior Patricia Veresova as the No. 3 seed in the 2013 NCAA Doubles Championship, May 22-27. Weatherholt, Nebraska’s 2013 Female Student-Athlete of the Year, is one of the most decorated players in Husker history and is contending for All-America honors on and off the court in 2013.
