Dickson Fires 69 at Firestone
The Huskers are seeking a third straight top-10 to start the season.

Akron, Ohio – Junior Ross Dickson scorched Firestone Country Club’s North Course in the second round with 3-under-par 69 to lead the Nebraska men’s golf team on Monday at the Firestone Invitational.

Dickson bogeyed his first hole of the second round, No. 8, before birdieing three holes on the back nine en route to 2-under-par 34. He birdied Nos. 1 and 2 on the front nine before parring his final five holes for 35. The London, England native added 6-over-par 78 in the first round and sits in a tie for 15th heading into the final round.

Dickson’s solid round helped the Huskers improve by 14 strokes from the first round to the second round. After opening with 307, NU posted 293 for a 36-hole total of 600. The Huskers are two shots out of the top 10 after 36 holes.

Matt Record, the lone senior in the lineup, carded 148 on Monday. Record made three birdies in the first round for 1-over-par 73 before adding one birdie in the second round for 75. He trails tournament co-leaders Matt Green of Kansas State and Stuart Grehan of Eastern Michigan by eight strokes after two rounds.

Calvin Freeman notched a pair of 76s at Firestone Country Club’s North Course, a par-72, 7,125-yard layout, on Monday. Freeman managed one birdie in the morning before adding four of them in the afternoon. The junior’s 152 total puts him in a tie for 51st.

Sophomore Kolton Lapa responded from a first-round 80 with 1-over-par 73 in the afternoon. After one birdie in the morning, Lapa reeled off three birdies and an eagle in the second round, firing a back-nine 33 in the process. Lapa is tied for 54th.

Justin Jennings, making his second collegiate start, showed improvement after an opening 82 by shooting 77 in the second round. The freshman made two birdies in each round. Jennings is tied for 80th with 18 holes to play.

Tuesday’s final round starts at 7:30 a.m. CT at Firestone’s North Course. Groups will tee off Holes 1 and 10. Scoring is available on Golfstat.com at http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/index.cfm?SPSID=119&SPID=35&DB_OEM_ID=100&tournament_id=4723
